Recreation

Publications

These files contain the publications that were created by Lakehead University students or the Alumni Association of Lakehead University. The files demonstrate the planning of issues of the Agora as well as other publications that were included within the contents of the collection donated by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

Provincial and Local Affairs

This category relates to Robinson's dual roles in civic and provincial affairs, although material of national significance is sometimes included. The first three files relate to the history of the origins of Lakehead University and the local campaigns to obtain a university or institute of higher learning in Northwest Ontario. Robinson was in the forefront of this campaign, beginning with his election to the Board of Education; he continued to promote the university in the legislature and in government circles. Other folders relate to the ship-building crisis in the Lakehead, and other issues of local and broader concern.

Projects

This series relates to child care projects and studies organized by the Northwestern Ontario Regional Child Care Committee. The series includes projects regarding coordinating community action, child care reform, child care funding, future directions and Northwestern Ontario issues and advocacy.

Project Files

Records of the Soviet Karelia Oral History interview project, including consent forms, photographs, correspondence, and news clippings.

Programming and Services

In addition to weekly Sunday Services, the LUF hosts special services such as memorials and weddings, and runs programs and events for members and the community to attend. The Religious Education committee frequently ran educational workshops for both adults and children, which often focused on spirituality and identity. The LUF took part in community events such as “Bicycle 4 Humanity” and cleaning up the highways, and offered services to the community such as the Empty Bowls/Caring Hearts program. Materials here include event planning records, promotional posters, correspondence, and planning for such events and programs.

Pre-1943 Period

This category concerns some aspects of Robinson's life before his election to public office, including his work as machinist for the C.N.R., some material about his activities in the labor movement as an executive officer in the I.A.M. (International Association of Machinists) and the Port Arthur Trades and Labor Council, and on the Lakehead Council of the Canadian League for Peace and Democracy. The folders contain material of local, national, and in some cases, international origin.

The collections are almost evenly split between the photographs and negatives that were collected by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.
