Materials relate to a project of collecting Finnish historical and archival documents. Includes news clippings, transcripts, notes, articles, and lists of publications and reference materials. Compiled by Hannes Sula in the 1940s-1950s.

Research

Records of Schroeter’s research on a variety of subjects, including history of sociology, particularly related to his thesis on the works of Theodor Geiger, political systems and participation, and “social problems”. Also contains book reviews.

Coalition for Wilderness

The Coalition for Wilderness, initially proposed by Addison, represented five groups in speaking for wilderness parks in Ontario: Algonquin Wildlands League, Canadian Nature Federation, Federation of Ontario Naturalists, National and Provincial Parks Association of Canada, and Sierra Club Ontario Chapter.

Publications

These files contain the publications that were created by Lakehead University students or the Alumni Association of Lakehead University. The files demonstrate the planning of issues of the Agora as well as other publications that were included within the contents of the collection donated by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

Photographs and Negatives

A collection of photographs, negatives, contact sheets and slides that relate to students, faculty, alumni, events, and the Lakehead University campus over the decades. The collection ranges from the 1960s into the 1990s with the majority pertaining to the 1980s and early 1990s. The collections are almost evenly split between the photographs and negatives that were collected by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

Finnish Building Company, Finnish Labour Temple Historical Documents

In 1909 two groups, the New Attempt Temperance Society and the Finnish-American Workers' League Imatra #9, formed the Finnish Building Company (Big Finn Hall) at 314 Bay Street. A number of individual shares were sold but a substantial majority were held by the two founding organizations having received nearly equivalent number of shares in return for turning over their assets.

Throughout its history, the Labour Temple has been a centre of Finnish social life in Thunder Bay. The usual activities have included socials, dances, speaking events, rehearsals, and presentations by theatrical clubs, choirs, bands, and gymnastic clubs. The Hall also hosted a number of national labour conventions in its early years.
