Committee on the Coordination of Academic Library Services (COALS)

Also includes a booklet on Science-Technology literature resources in Canada and a union list of scientific serials in Canadian Libraries, 1966. A letter confirms the arrival of a new librarian, Dr. Belton. Correspondence on the establishment of Inter-University Transit System (IUTS) in fourteen Ontario universities. Includes statistics and procedures from York University Libraries, operating procedures prepared by Ontario Council of University Librarians and weekly routing schedules. Inter-Library loan policy statements, procedures and statistics are also included plus a news release on how library cooperation will aid faculty and graduate students.

Miscellaneous 1975-1976

1976/77 correspondence from Ralph E. Stierwalt and Kenneth R. Frost, director(s) of library coordination Council of Ontario Universities (COU) on UNICAT/TELECAT Project (a union catalogue and support system shared by 18 Ontario universities) - Management Committee and Dortmund Bibliotheksystem (DOBIS) a content management system for libraries. Also includes loose papers on varied topics such as Conference of Rectors and Principals of the Universities of Quebec (CREPUQ) offer to join Ontario in a study of Depository Libraries, interlibrary loans, library coordination in Ontario universities and the role of the Ontario Council of University Libraries. Various correspondence from other Ontario universities on librarians’ pay scale, administrative organizational charts, position descriptions.

Notices to staff

Memos on new staff, season tickets to athletic contests, summer hours/schedules, residence housing, Lakehead Film Society, Lakehead University Faculty Association (LUFA), Lakehead University Charity Fund Committee, banking services on campus and parking regulations. Lakehead University’s Audio-Visual Department in conjunction with CKPR present Montage, a 15 minute-program featuring interviews with members of teaching staff, student body, and administrative staff. Also includes an entry form for Lakehead University school song contest, a notice of a special meeting to discuss the integration of Teacher’s College and election procedure and faculty office space. Trevor Page memorial fund was initiated. In 1967 the University Library became a full depository for all Canadian Government publications as per the Queen’s Printer.

Mid-Canada Report, draft forms

Mid-Canada Corporation, 1971/72 folder which includes a questionnaire on the quality, needs and availability of research in the Canadian Sub Arctic (Mid-Canada). Questionnaire was prepared by Geography Department. A report and recommendations was released; findings indicated that an institute should be established for information exchange, collection, and distribution. Lakehead University was the recommended location. Also includes loose papers on library related functions and issues of Readers’ Guide.
