Inter-Library Cooperation

Series consists of inter-university correspondence in the area of cooperation between the provincially-assisted universities to create a provincial library system in Ontario. Meeting minutes, reports, budget and salary surveys, task forces, questionnaires and cooperative projects include inter-university transit system, computerized cataloging, government documents project and cooperative union serials system.
Correspondence also includes telex messages with related societies and organizations.

Lakehead University Library Operations

Series consists of administrative files from the Principal and Office of the Chief Librarian including acquisitions, annual reports, collection development, building development, organizational charts, manuals and policies. Correspondence includes memos, letters, telex messages and campus newsletter, in addition miscellaneous questionnaires, surveys and detailed planning on new library building including furniture & equipment, shelving and space allocation.
The bulk of the records consist of inter-university correspondence providing insight into the workings of the library during a period of library and academic expansion, computerization and transition.

Photographs and Negatives

A collection of photographs, negatives, contact sheets and slides that relate to students, faculty, alumni, events, and the Lakehead University campus over the decades. The collection ranges from the 1960s into the 1990s with the majority pertaining to the 1980s and early 1990s. The collections are almost evenly split between the photographs and negatives that were collected by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

Publications

These files contain the publications that were created by Lakehead University students or the Alumni Association of Lakehead University. The files demonstrate the planning of issues of the Agora as well as other publications that were included within the contents of the collection donated by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

Newspaper Clippings and Releases

The collection of News Clippings and News/Press Releases that contains a number of different items that pertained to the events or publications at Lakehead University. There are news releases that range from the late 1960s to the mid-1990s. The news releases contain information about students and staff presentations, events held by Lakehead University and those associated with the university, and other various items that were put out by Lakehead University. There are a number of different newspaper clippings pertaining to students, faculty, Lakehead University and Alumni events and athletics from 1963 to 2018.

Administrative Files

A collection of the administrative files that pertains to the Alumni Association of Lakehead University including Alumni Association Minutes and Reports, Membership Lists, Budgeting and Event Files. These files contain information related to the Alumni Associations organization as well as broader Lakehead University topics. There are drafts of the Constitution of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University and Board of Governors Reports. The membership lists include local and distant chapter members. Some of the files contain sensitive personal information.

Miscellaneous

Articles, clippings, research notes, correspondence, copies of organizational minutes, diaries, and other materials not categorized elsewhere in the TBFCHS collection. Includes materials related to the Finnish Building Company, Otava Male Choir, and a diary of the Finnish Civil War.

Administration

Records about the administration of the School of Library Technology, including program planning, annual reports, and relationship to the Faculty of University Schools and Lakehead University.

Student Experience

Records reflecting the student experience at the School of Library Technology, including photographs of students and faculty, scrapbooks and clippings, yearbooks, and convocation programs.

Television and Radio

Includes a complete run of Thunder Gay Magazine as produced for local television 1987-1991. The program addressed a variety of topics affecting LGBTQ+ people locally.

Also includes various television and radio news programs, and informational videos produced by the AIDS Committee of Thunder Bay.

Newsletters

Extensive runs of Thunder Gay Magazine (physical newsletter 1980-1987) and newsletters of the AIDS Committee of Thunder Bay / AIDS Thunder Bay (digital versions of reACT-Believe 1988-2002 and FrontLine 2003-2006).

Research and Activism

Consists of files on a variety of issues affecting LGBTQ+ people in Northwestern Ontario particularly, and in Canada and worldwide. Files include correspondence, news clippings, and documents. Many files on local issues include material authored by Belrose.

Also includes records of local groups including Gays of Thunder Bay (1980-1993), Out and About, BGLLU, Pride Central, Northern Pride youth group, and AIDS Committee of Thunder Bay / AIDS Thunder Bay.

Living Legacy Trust

As the Lands for Life project concluded, the Province designated the Living Legacy Trust fund to support land use planning and natural resources and environmental management. This fund ran from 1999 to 2004, and remaining monies were granted to Lakehead University for related projects.

The records here consist mostly of reports of projects funded by the Trust.

Lands for Life

Consists of Lands for Life public material, from the start of the project. Includes records such as meeting materials, correspondence, community meetings, presentations in Northwestern Ontario, media and publicity, and reference material.

Writing

Through her involvement with the Northern Woman's Bookstore and writing groups, Margaret wrote and edited poetry, short stories, and memoirs. This series includes some of her more polished works, as well as drafts and notes.

Social Policy and Activism

Records, documents, and correspondence relating to Margaret Phillips's work on social policy and rights in Thunder Bay and internationally. Includes her work with Lakehead Social Planning Council, Northern Ontario Women's Decade Council, Thunder Bay Literacy Group, and more. Much of her focus is on women's rights and issues affecting women in Northwestern Ontario and worldwide.
