This file contains information about conversion funds for existing commercial child care spaces to become non-profit. Included in the file is correspondence with the Honourable Marion Boyd, Minister of Community and Social Services; newspaper articles detailing response of private day cares; and news releases for support from child care advocates. The file also includes the paper "Toward a High Quality Child Care System in Ontario: Why Commercial Child Care is not the Way to Go" from the OCBCC; a response from United Voices for the Fair Treatment in Child Care; "kids not cash - Non-profit Child Care" information package from the Ontario Federation of Labour; with NWORDCC fact sheets in association with OCBCC. The file also holds a cassette tape entitled "Great Northwest Day Care Centres non-profit/profit" from December 4, 1991.

The Education Option

This file contains information about the role the education system plays in the delivery of child care. Included in the file are summaries of discussions from the School Based Meetings Working Group; relevant research articles and newspaper clippings; planning notes for the session "Day Care Jurisdiction: The Education Option" at NWORDCC Forum 1990; Ontario Coalition For Better Child Care Discussion Paper, Fall Policy Forum 1989; and correspondence regarding educational jurisdiction and day care. The file also contains key documents from the Ontario Public School Board Association, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Community and Social Services regarding child care in the schools, school responsibilities and financing, and "Proposed Ministry of Education Direction for Child Care".
