The Alumni Association of Lakehead University Collection consists of records, photographs, ephemera and objects donated by alumni over the years, demonstrating the history of Lakehead University and its students and alumni.

The administrative files contain Alumni Association minutes and reports, membership lists, budgeting information and events files. The news clippings and releases contain newspaper clippings and news/press releases from Lakehead University and the Alumni Association. Publications include items such as the Agora paper that was released by Lakehead University and other publications that were used and acquired by students, staff or alumni of Lakehead University. The photographs and negatives also include contact sheets and slides from Lakehead University. The photographs and negatives series include a number of different items from the campus, student and faculty, events, and sports. The Artifacts and Ephemera include presentation poster board materials and information as well as promotional materials that were distributed by Lakehead University.

Margaret Phillips began her career in municipal recreation, and became an advocate and activist for feminist and social justice issues. She was a founder of the Northern Woman's Bookstore, an executive director of the Lakehead Social Planning Council, and on the board of directors of Inter Pares, among other work.

These are the records of the Chief Librarian (University Librarian) of Lakehead University (Lakehead Technical Institute, Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology.)

The records document the management and administration of the Lakehead University Library, including the construction of the Library building, policies, acquisitions, staffing, and more. Correspondence provides insight into the workings of the library during a period of library and academic expansion, computerization and transition.

The Chief Librarian had a significant role as a member of University administration, and participated on Faculty Council, Senate, and numerous committees. Records here reflect those bodies and their work throughout this time period, including proposed and new programs, enrollment, new construction, governance, and long range planning.

The Library's role in partnership with other organizations provincially, nationally, and internationally is also represented. Many libraries were adopting new technologies at this time, which allowed for more communications and cooperation, on projects including computerized cataloguing and inter-library loan.

The time period covered in these records includes major developments and changes within Lakehead University, and in the cultures and technologies of universities and libraries.

David Anderson fonds

Photograph album by David Anderson, who served with the Canadian Navy, based in Halifax during the Second World War period. Album is labelled "Halifax War Time 39/45." The photographs include images of ships, aircraft, Navy life, and also include a set of images of celebrations of the end of the war in 1945. Anderson was from Thunder Bay.

Holly Parsons fonds

Consists of a memoir written by Horace Hunter "Holly" Parsons, an aerial timber sketcher whose career spanned over 50 years. This memoir contains information about the contracts he fulfilled for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, formerly the Department of Forests and Lands, and various logging, pulp, and paper corporations. Some contracts also involved mapping out the borders of areas where forest fires had occurred. These contracts spanned across Ontario and parts of Quebec, with a focus on the areas surrounding the District of Thunder Bay. Included in the memoir are personal anecdotes, descriptions of his trips, crew members he worked with over the years, and photographs taken by or given to "Holly" Parsons.

Dates of the memoir and accompanying photographs range 1922-1976.

Horace Hunter "Holly" Parsons (1902-1990) was born in Owen Sound, Ontario and lived in Etobicoke, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1925 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry.

Kalevan Naiset fonds

Records include a nearly complete run of Kalevainen, the magazine of the order, with articles in both Finnish and English. Other publications, of Kalevan Naiset and Kalevan Riitarit, and about Kalevala.

Kalevan Naiset (Ladies of Kaleva) Ainikin Tupa was established in Port Arthur in 1955. This branch of the international organization held meetings and organized fundraisers and public events. Kalevan Naiset was the sister organization to Kalevan Riitarit (Knights of Kaleva) which also operated in Thunder Bay. Kalevan Naisit Ainikin Tupa began to disband after their last tea in 2025.

Material relates to the Fort William Riding Association of the Ontario Confederation of Regions Party. Rogers was President of the Riding Association, and the records consist largely of his correspondence in this role.

Records relate to Party registration, and to membership, finances, and activities during the period 1989-1991, a period of trying to raise interest in Party membership and participation. Ultimately, the Fort William Riding Association folded in 1991.

The Ontario Provincial Confederation of Regions Party (COR) was established in 1989 as the Federal party was dissolved. The party was generally conservative, opposing bilingualism and multiculturalism, while also supporting environmental and farmland protections. In the 1990 Ontario election, COR received just under 2% of the vote, which would be their highest showing.

Records consist of copies of Gert Beadle's work, and material about her. Photographs, news clippings, autobiographical writings, letters. There are 5 cassette tapes recording interviews and discussions between Beadle and poet Mary Billy.

Material was assembled by Lynne Thornburg over a long period, with plans to write a book about Beadle's life and work. Many print materials have been transcribed to digital format.

Nigel Juhtund fonds

Nigel Juhtund was a resident of Schreiber. He was a bachelor and worked in a lumber mill in Terrace Bay. He was originally from the Baltic region of Europe. Juhtund recorded all of his bird sightings for the Schreiber area from 1952 until 1985. The Federation of Ontario Naturalists honoured his work by granting him an award at their annual conference in 1990 held in Thunder Bay.

The fonds consists of bird observation data and summaries of the data. The fonds consists of the following series:

Dr. Penny Serafina Petrone (1925-2005) taught at Lakehead University's Faculty of Education. She was also an author, researcher, and traveller. The records reflect her research on Indigenous literatures and cultures and on education (particularly teacher education); her writings including memoirs, personal records, and records of travel.

Dr. Ellie Prepas fonds

The records consist primarily of several decades of research data from the study of water quality in lakes. Prepas, who is Professor Emeritus of Natural Resource Management at Lakehead University, was also formerly employed at the University of Alberta. Much of the research was conducted on Alberta lakes, with some performed in Ontario as well. A significant portion of the third accession consists of slides and print photographs showing research activities.

The records also include some teaching notes and course materials, as well as some correspondence and administrative material.

The School of Library Technology at Lakehead University operated from 1966 until 2002, administratively part of the Faculty of University Schools. It was one of only two university-based Library Technology programs in Canada.

Students enrolled in either a 2-year diploma program, or a post-graduate diploma program that could often be completed within 1 year. In the late 1980s, amid concerns that non-degree programs might no longer be funded by the Ontario government, there was a proposal to create a 3-year Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Studies.

The records consist of:

Student Experience: Includes yearbooks, photographs, and scrapbooks of students and graduates of the program.
