Children and Poverty

This file contains a collection of material regarding issues for children and families. Included in the file are funding announcements for community centres for supervised access; Employment Standards Amendment Act for pregnancy and paternity leave; fact sheets for social assistance; and articles and newspaper clippings regarding caring for children, divorce, custody, and visitation. A copy of Bill 124: An Act to Amend the Children's Law Reform Act and Proposed Changes to Access Laws is also included in the file.

This file contains a collection of newspaper clippings about day care reform; an outline for the Ontario Regional Day Care Conferences; a poster prepared by the Ontario Status of Women about sex-role stereotyping; a typed copy of "A Fabulous Child's Story" about sex-stereotyping.

Co-operative Child Care Centre

This file contains information about the Co-operative Child Care Centre, which started and operated with connections to The Northern Women's Centre from the Fort William YMCA. The file includes: sign-in book, information sheets, correspondence, supplies contact, planning designs, bill receipts, budget, permission forms and daily activity sheet.

Political party responses to OCBCC questionnaire are included in the file with summaries of childcare issues in Ontario and responses.

Commercial Centres

This file contains information about conversion funds for existing commercial child care spaces to become non-profit. Included in the file is correspondence with the Honourable Marion Boyd, Minister of Community and Social Services; newspaper articles detailing response of private day cares; and news releases for support from child care advocates. The file also includes the paper "Toward a High Quality Child Care System in Ontario: Why Commercial Child Care is not the Way to Go" from the OCBCC; a response from United Voices for the Fair Treatment in Child Care; "kids not cash - Non-profit Child Care" information package from the Ontario Federation of Labour; with NWORDCC fact sheets in association with OCBCC. The file also holds a cassette tape entitled "Great Northwest Day Care Centres non-profit/profit" from December 4, 1991.

Commercial Issue Workshop

This file contains research articles and updates toward a collective Northwestern Ontario action to secure and develop child care for the region. Included in the file are the reports "Re-Convening the Forum" from Margaret Phillips NWORDCC; and a "Summary of SPR Associates Inc. Study for the Special Parliamentary Committee on Childcare". Community Social Services Northern Extras

This file contains government funding information for NWO. Included in the file are publications from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture for Municipal Library Service; Ministry of Culture and Communications grants; Ministry of Community and Social Services Northern Bursary Program; and Ministry of Northern Development and Mines extended care capital assistance program with guidelines for medical/dental centre projects. A copy of the publication "Northern Directions for the Delivery of Services to Special Needs Children and Their Families" is also in the file.
