Lakehead University Library Operations

Series consists of administrative files from the Principal and Office of the Chief Librarian including acquisitions, annual reports, collection development, building development, organizational charts, manuals and policies. Correspondence includes memos, letters, telex messages and campus newsletter, in addition miscellaneous questionnaires, surveys and detailed planning on new library building including furniture & equipment, shelving and space allocation.
The bulk of the records consist of inter-university correspondence providing insight into the workings of the library during a period of library and academic expansion, computerization and transition.

Newsletters

File arrangement reflects original order: as part of the history project, the past Newsletters were ordered chronologically and ordered into binders. They include information typical of any newsletter: the month ahead, notes from the president, and general updates. The original arrangement was not disturbed while the binders were replaced with folders. It appears the newsletters were sent out electronically after 2012.

Teaching

Course syllabus and notes for ENGL 4811, ENGL 4813 and ENGL 3817. Contains records that show the progression of Liman's teaching career such as correspondence with his teacher, correspondence with a fellow professor at another university, journals and letters reflecting on his job, and documents from a ceremony acknowledging his teaching and poetry. Other writing included are a manuscript of a course textbook he wrote, How to Coach Creative Writing, and a few copies of his thesis: Building the American House. Some essays and articles that were written by him or his students are included as well.

Reports and Board Material

Textual documents and 3 CD-Rs with pictures and videos from events and moments. While the administrative assistants over the years did an admirable job updating binders with related material, there was substantial material that was not filed with the Board minutes and seemingly was gathered from the administrators desk when they moved out of their building on Algoma street. This included board minutes, reports, and correspondence that directly related to the way that LUF governed their institution. This subseries reflects the way the alphabetical arrangement had limitations: there was material that did not neatly fall into the categories they chose. Files relating to organization and function that did not fit into other series are stored here, such as “fellowship life.” Includes also bylaw and policy information, financial statements and reports, and board members’ correspondence.

Same Sex Marriage

News clippings, posters and brochures for events, primarily related to the Canadian government decision on same sex marriage in 2004-2005. Most records have a local focus.
